Valentine's and 100's Day!

What a busy week we had! On Tuesday, we celebrated Valentine's Day by decorating our cereal boxes and passing out cards to each other.

Friday was our 100th Day of School! The kids did a great job decorating their hats!

We made 100's Day Trail Mix with 10 different snacks!

For centers we build with 100 snap cubes, rolled dice to 100, took 100 steps from the classroom, and made self portraits of us at age 100.

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who came in to help us on 100's day!

*** Reminder*** We have school Monday & Tuesday. Mid-Winter break is from Wednesday, February 22- Friday, February 24. Enjoy your extra days off!

Valentine's and 100's Day Reminders

We are still collecting empty cereal boxes to hold our Valentines on Tuesday. It would be very helpful to send yours in on Monday since I have to wrap them all in red paper. Thank you to families who sent in boxes already. I currently have 7 boxes, so we need 10 more. Eat your cereal! :)

Yesterday I sent home the hats for the 100th day of school. Spend time this week putting 100 items on the hat with your student. They can wear the hat to school on our 100th day of school this Friday, February 17th. Here are some pictures of previous classes to help give some ideas of what to put on the hat.

Blowing a Bubble, Shining Light, & The Sweetheart Dance

In writing, we are learning about writing a "How To." This week we wrote about how to blow a bubble! Before we could write, we had to practice. So we each chewed a piece of bubble gum and tried to blow bubbled.

We had tons of fun and laughter practicing. We also discussed what we had to to do blow a bubble. After we wrote out the steps we discussed. Yesterday we put our writing together with a little craft!

Olivia was the shining light this week. I told the class I was looking for a student who moves around the room safely and I was really watching for someone who used walking feet. Not only is Olivia safe, but she has been working so hard in school! I'm proud of her all her progress!

Last night was our school's annual Sweetheart Dance! Students and families had fun dancing and enjoying food! My sweetheart, Mr. Woolsey, even came to help out! It was great seeing the students and families all dressed up!

Book-It Form

I realized I forgot to send home Book-It reading charts for February! I promise to put them in folders on Monday. If you want- you can print it out at home and begin keeping track now. The goal is for students to read at least times a week.

New Homework: Weekend Writing

Today you will see a journal in your student's folder. We are beginning weekend writing homework. Each Friday (or Thursday if we don't have school) your student will bring home this journal. I will glue a question for your student to write about on the next page available. Your student needs to write 2-3 sentences and draw a picture about the question. Please do NOT spell out all the words for your student. You may help them stretch out words they are struggling with. Sight words from their word ring should be spelled correctly. Do be sure they are using correct punctuation and lower and uppercase letters appropriately. Let me know if you have any questions about this new weekly homework assignment. Have fun writing! I look forward to reading your student's work!

Groundhog's Day

Yesterday we learned all about groundhogs and made a prediction for Groundhog's Day. 13 students thought that the groundhog would not see his shadow and spring would begin. Today we watched a clip from today's Groundhog's Day celebration and learned that he did see his shadow so there will be 6 more week of winter. We also made groundhogs and recorded a poem!

Measuring and Mystery Reader

In my Grad Class (I have 2 left to go!!!) I am writing a thesis paper about differentiation in the classroom. I will be working on it until June. Because of this, I will be often teaching math lessons in small groups. My goal with this is to cater my lessons to the different abilities of the students in our room. Today in our groups we used measuring tape to measure round objects. They really enjoyed using the new measuring tool!

Thank you Mr. Pitt for being the Mystery Reader today for the Kindergarten and First grade students. We enjoyed hearing Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!
